Languages and Culture Celebration

The school was awash with international bunting to mark our two International Curriculum Days on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th June.  At the core of the days was a desire to celebrate the wonderful range of languages and culture in our school community. The children dressed up representing a variety of countries on both days ready to celebrate across the curriculum.

Day 1 focused on celebrating languages across our school community with a languages audit carried out across families (32 spoken!) and staff (12 spoken!) The data collected was used in Maths tasks across year groups, alongside visits to classes from parent volunteers to share language, songs, dances, stories from their cultures. We had a whole school French breakfast, assemblies, and then each child created a Language Portrait in their classes to explain all the countries they feel linked to.

Day 2 focused on food across the continents, with an International Food Market with parents and staff volunteering to cook and serve food representing 6 continents and 21 countries. The children came out in year groups to sample a selection of food from across the world, and our music teacher provided musical accompaniment with the children playing Samba and Djembe in the background.
