Computing
‘Computational thinking’ is a skill that children must be taught if they are to be able to participate effectively and safely in this digital world. We encourage pupils to be discerning users of technology, beginning by teaching key computing skills in Reception.
Our curriculum follows the ‘Switched on Computing’ scheme of work covering four units per year group with the children building on and developing their knowledge in each year.
Aspects of the computing curriculum covered are:
- Programming
- Computational thinking
- Creativity
- Computer networks
- Communication and collaboration
- Productivity
- Online safety
Lessons are taught in our Computing Suite, classroom or wider school environment depending on the type of technology the children are using. We have PCs, iPads, tablets and digital cameras which support the children’s learning as well as each classroom being equipped with interactive boards.
We teach children the power of being digitally literate through providing children with many opportunities to apply their newly acquired skills across the wider curriculum.
