We have a long-established tradition of excellence in drama at Wimbledon Park.  Drama offers so much more than purely the development of performance art. Spoken language underpins the progression of reading and writing, and so the quality and variety of language that pupils hear and speak are vital for developing their vocabulary, grammar and comprehension.

Alongside magical Christmas musical performances, pupils in KS1 and KS2 perform a play with their class that is specifically tailored around their learning topic.   All children, regardless of their ability, are given the opportunity to perform to help develop their skills and confidence.  We promote an ethos of teamwork and responsibility where all pupils learn how to engage and stimulate the listener through movement and voice.

In Year 6, pupils enjoy a term of drama workshops around a Shakespeare play and perform their own adaptation using original and modern text written by the pupils.  In the final half-term of the year, Year 6 also perform a musical in a unique project that brings together music, drama and dance.  Year 6 teachers create a programme of work that links learning to the topic of the play, making it much more than just an end of year show.
