School Tour

Welcome to a tour of the school in photos.  In 2011, the school was expanded to three forms of entry each year with the addition of new accommodation and play spaces on site.  Alongside the new buildings, we have also refurbished the rest of the school so that every child benefits from state of the art educational facilities.

Most children’s first experience of the school is in our Nursery located on the ground floor of the East Wing.

The Nursery has two classes, morning and afternoon. There are six adults employed in the Nursery – two teachers and four key workers – and there are always five adults working with the children throughout the day. Children join one of four groups of 13, each with their own key worker. The Nursery also benefits from its own secure playground and outdoor exploration area.
From the nursery, children move into one of three Reception classes, located adjacent to the nursery on the ground floor of the East wing.
Each class of 30 children has a class teacher and an early years specialist teaching assistant providing full time support. The Reception classes share a fantastic outdoor learning area and a newly built playground.
Children then progress into Year1 and Year 2, collectively known as Key Stage 1.
Year 1 is located on the ground floor of the South Wing and Year 2 on the first floor of the East Wing. Within Years 1 and 2, we have a strong focus on basic skills of reading, writing, counting and calculating, laying the foundations for all later learning . Each class has a class teacher and teaching assistant.
Years 3 and 4 are collectively known as lower Key Stage 2,
and both are located along the south Wing Corridor in newly refurbished classrooms.
Year 5 and 6 are located in the West Wing,
built and opened when the school became an all-through primary school in 2003.
We also benefit from a dedicated music room,
French classroom, a library and computing lab.
We have two halls. The main Downey Hall is used for PE, lunch, assemblies and performances.
We are fortunate that both halls are equipped with recently purchased drama and music production facilities.
We have masses of outdoor space for play and sport, comprising dedicated playgrounds for Nursery and Reception, a main school playground, an adventure playground and a large sport ground with grass and all weather pitches.
We also regularly use the Durnsford Recreation Ground both for sport and other learning activities. We hope that you have seen a little of our wonderful school on this brief tour. If you would like to find out more, we hold prospective parent tours most weeks during the autumn term. Please call the school office.
