Year 5

Welcome to Year 5. We look forward to working with you as your child goes on this exciting learning journey! The team is led by Mrs Bansal, Miss Field and Miss Walker as class teachers. Supporting in class are: Libby, Louise, Michelle, Sandra and Julia all working as teaching and learning assistants.

An exciting and innovative year awaits our learners as they enter Upper Key Stage 2 and they discover the wider world by learning about an array of interesting and intriguing topics. From learning about the impact of David Hockney to the settling of Anglo-Saxons and the events of World War One, your child can look forward to an exciting year ahead! Further highlights will include some exciting class trips and the amazing opportunity to be immersed in French culture during our trip to France in the Spring term.

During Year 5, we encourage a growing sense of responsibility and independence in our pupils, while ensuring that each child is supported in their learning journey. Independence is encouraged through class jobs, responsibility of stationery and reflection of behaviour.

We look forward to communicating with families and carers about your child’s progress, achievements and experiences at school. Forging strong relationships with families is important to us and we encourage you to discuss the needs of your children as they arise. Please feel free to talk with us after school or email us on the addresses below.

Year 5 are very much looking forward to teaching this year’s curriculum and enhancing children’s reading, writing and maths skills along the way. The richness of the curriculum will provide children with many opportunities to develop and showcase their skills. Throughout each unit taught, children will build on their prior knowledge, participate in regular quizzes and discussions and produce their learning in different ways, for example, presentations, a variety of texts and debates. In terms of their writing skills in English specifically, children are encouraged to explore and experiment while drafting their work and they are encouraged to be reflective learners in the editing stage, therefore developing strong self-assessment skills, whilst taking great pride in their published pieces.

Below, you will be able to access key learning that children will access in this half term.
